Organic cotton is grown according to organic farming criteria set by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). Under these criteria, organic agriculture should avoid the use of harmful pesticides, fertilisers and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in order to respect the soil and those who live from it. Conventional agriculture is not regulated in this way.
Organic cotton offers a more sustainable approach to cotton cultivation by relying on natural, traditional farming practices instead of the chemical-intensive methods used in conventional cotton farming. This approach reduces energy consumption, eliminates harmful chemicals, and produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, organic farming enhances soil quality, allowing for a significant reduction in water use. The benefits to water resources, soil health, and biodiversity contribute to protecting the well-being and livelihoods of farmers and their communities.
Aligned with our primary certifications, including Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX and GOTS, any chemicals we use are safe for both human health and the environment. In certain stages of production, we may incorporate specific non-toxic chemicals to achieve the desired product performance or aesthetic. With sustainability as our core focus, we are also exploring natural dyes derived from plants, food waste, minerals, and more to further reduce our chemical footprint. However, natural dyes come with added costs and unique challenges that we are working to address.
